Deuteronomy 31:6
KJV: Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
NKJV: Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.
NIV: Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.
Interpretation: God promises that He will never abandon His people, even when they face enemies or difficult situations. The verse addresses the fear of being left alone. It assures that God will always be present and faithful. The phrase uses two strong negative statements to show that abandonment is not possible with God. God's promise provides the foundation for courage and strength. No matter what challenges come, God remains committed to His people.

Psalm 27:10
KJV: When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.
NKJV: When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take care of me.
NIV: Though my father and mother forsake me, the LORD will receive me.
Interpretation: The verse addresses the fear of abandonment by comparing it to parental love, which is the strongest human relationship. Even if parents abandon their children, God will take them in and care for them. The verse acknowledges that human abandonment can happen from those closest to us. God's faithfulness goes beyond any human relationship. When people are abandoned by their parents, God becomes their protector and provider.

Hebrews 13:5
KJV: Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
NKJV: Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you."
NIV: Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."
Interpretation: God's promise that He will never abandon us leads to contentment with what we have. The verse teaches that avoiding greed becomes easier when we remember God's promise. Since God will never abandon us, we don't need to seek security in accumulating wealth or possessions. The assurance of God's constant presence provides greater security than any earthly treasure. Such assurance allows us to be satisfied with what we have rather than constantly wanting more.

Isaiah 49:14
KJV: But Zion said, The LORD hath forsaken me, and my Lord hath forgotten me.
NKJV: But Zion said, "The LORD has forsaken me, and my Lord has forgotten me."
NIV: But Zion said, "The LORD has forsaken me, the Lord has forgotten me."
Interpretation: The verse expresses the deep feeling of being abandoned by God. Zion represents God's people and cries out that God has forsaken them and forgotten them. It isn't a statement of fact but an honest expression of pain and fear. People often feel abandoned by God when they face difficulties. They may not see God working in their lives. The verse shows that God understands these feelings. He responds with compassion in the following verses to reassure His people that they are never truly abandoned.

Isaiah 49:15
KJV: Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.
NKJV: Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, yet I will not forget you.
NIV: Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!
Interpretation: God responds to the fear of abandonment with a powerful comparison to a mother's love for her nursing child. The verse asks whether a mother could forget her own baby. A mother's love represents one of the strongest human bonds possible. Even though a mother's love is incredibly strong, God acknowledges that even this strong love could potentially fail. However, God's love for His people is even stronger than a mother's love for her child. Because God's love is stronger, God will never forget or abandon His people, even in the most difficult circumstances.

Matthew 27:46
KJV: And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
NKJV: And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?" that is, "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?"
NIV: About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?" (which means "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?").
Interpretation: The verse shows Jesus experiencing the deepest abandonment possible. He was separated from God the Father while dying on the cross. Jesus cried out in Aramaic, quoting Psalm 22, and asked why God had forsaken Him. At this moment, Jesus was bearing the weight of all human sin. Bearing the weight of sin required temporary separation from God. That separation was the ultimate abandonment, experienced so that believers would never have to be abandoned by God. Because Jesus endured this abandonment, those who trust in Him can be confident that God will never forsake them.

Psalm 22:1
KJV: My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?
NKJV: My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me? Why are You so far from helping Me, and from the words of My groaning?
NIV: My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish?
Interpretation: The psalm begins with a cry of feeling abandoned by God. The psalmist asks why God seems so far away and why He isn't helping. He expresses deep pain and feels that God has left him alone in his suffering. Even though the psalm starts with feelings of abandonment, crying out to God demonstrates there is still a relationship with Him. The psalm later moves from despair to trust and praise. Feelings of abandonment don't mean God has actually left us. Jesus quoted the verse on the cross, showing He understood this same feeling of abandonment.

Joshua 1:5
KJV: There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
NKJV: No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you.
NIV: No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.
Interpretation: God promises Joshua that He will never abandon him as he leads Israel into the Promised Land. The promise comes at a critical moment when Joshua might have felt alone after Moses' death. God assures Joshua that just as He was with Moses, He will be with Joshua throughout his entire life. The phrase means God promises both to give Joshua the strength he needs and to never leave him. God's promise of constant presence gives Joshua the confidence to lead. He knows he won't be abandoned even when facing enemies or difficult challenges.

1 Chronicles 28:20
KJV: And David said to Solomon his son, Be strong and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be dismayed: for the LORD God, even my God, will be with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the LORD.
NKJV: And David said to his son Solomon, "Be strong and of good courage, and do it; do not fear nor be dismayed, for the LORD God—my God—will be with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you, until you have finished all the work for the service of the house of the LORD.
NIV: David also said to Solomon his son, "Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the temple of the LORD is finished."
Interpretation: David encourages Solomon to be strong and courageous as he builds the temple. He promises that God will not abandon him during this important work. The verse emphasizes that God will remain present and faithful throughout the entire building project. The phrase guarantees that God will be with Solomon for the complete duration of the work. God will not abandon him partway through. When God calls someone to do His work, He promises to remain with them. He will not leave them alone. David shares his own confidence in God with his son. The God who was faithful to David will also be faithful to Solomon.

2 Timothy 4:10
KJV: For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.
NKJV: For Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world, and has departed for Thessalonica—Crescens for Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia.
NIV: Demas, because he loved this world, has deserted me and has gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, and Titus to Dalmatia.
Interpretation: Paul describes how Demas abandoned him while Paul was in prison and facing death. Demas left because he loved the things of this world more than staying with Paul during his suffering. Demas's abandonment is different from Crescens and Titus, who also left but presumably for legitimate ministry work. Demas's abandonment shows the painful reality that even fellow believers can abandon us. Such abandonment happens when following God becomes difficult or uncomfortable. When people choose the comfort and approval of the world over faithfulness to God and His people, they demonstrate that their priorities are misplaced. The verse reminds us that human abandonment can happen, but God will never abandon those who trust in Him.
