KJV:
And David said to Solomon his son, Be strong and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be dismayed: for the LORD God, even my God, will be with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the LORD.
NKJV:
And David said to his son Solomon, "Be strong and of good courage, and do it; do not fear nor be dismayed, for the LORD God—my God—will be with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you, until you have finished all the work for the service of the house of the LORD.
NIV:
David also said to Solomon his son, "Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the temple of the LORD is finished."
Interpretation:
David encourages Solomon to be strong and courageous as he builds the temple. He promises that God will not abandon him during this important work. The verse emphasizes that God will remain present and faithful throughout the entire building project. The phrase guarantees that God will be with Solomon for the complete duration of the work. God will not abandon him partway through. When God calls someone to do His work, He promises to remain with them. He will not leave them alone. David shares his own confidence in God with his son. The God who was faithful to David will also be faithful to Solomon.
