KJV:
And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.
NKJV:
And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living.
NIV:
Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living.
Interpretation:
The younger son wasted his possessions through dissipation and riotous living. The verse shows that dissipation means wasteful, excessive living that consumes resources. The son squandered everything he had through wild living. The verse teaches that dissipation leads to loss and emptiness. Living recklessly wastes what we have been given. Dissipation shows a lack of wisdom and self-control in how we use our resources.
